Why we selected it
It took us a long time to find the perfect coconut oil. We tried many, we rejected many, and we found this one. Coconut oil is a traditional and very rare skill on the Great Island of Madagascar. That is why there are so many producers and so many differences in quality. Then we found this one, the treacle of which we are so proud. Try it and you'll soon understand.
.Suggestion n°1: A shine treatment for your hair from the Emerald Sea
- 5 drops of Ylang Ylang essential oil
- 5mL of jojoba oil
- 5mL coconut oil
Mix these oils in a container. Keep the mixture in the fridge or at least in a cool place.
Before each use, mix in the palm of your hand the equivalent of a teaspoon of coffee, rub to warm the coconut oil mixture. Apply as an overnight mask, then rinse with your usual shampoo the next day. For very dry hair, you can use this blend as a day treatment.
Think about storing your homemade care products in the fridge to make them last longer and possibly add a few drops of grapefruit extract or vitamin E for preservation.
Suggestion n°2: Tonalizing oil for the body
- 15mL (1 tablespoon) of vitamin kukui oil
- 8mL (1/2 tablespoon) of virgin coconut oil
- 10 drops of niaouli essential oil
Mix together until you have a homogeneous mixture. Apply to your legs by massaging along your muscles before going to bed. This coconut oil-based treatment will tone your skin week after week: it will be visibly firmer! Keep this blend away from the heat, just like your other homemade cosmetic prescriptions.
Suggestion
Suggestion #3: Lip balm
Beware, this recipe is simple: you only need coconut. Our coconut oil "Coconut Rhapsody" is used as a lip balm: the texture is ideal, its smell sweet, it is so pleasant to apply... In addition to moisturizing your lips even in the worst conditions (prepare yourself for winter!) If you're looking for a more labor-intensive balm, in the form of a cute little stock, you can cover our homemade balm: Kiss Side Story.
Suggestion n°4: Intimate lube!
Who says oils are only for the sacrosanct face? The ultra-short formula of our Coconut oil (1 single ingredient bydi!) to fluidify your intimate evenings, one, two, three, four, we let you find. Coconut oil, because of its composition in saturated fatty acids, is an excellent natural lubricant, which melts upon application. However, beware of compatibility with preservatives, the latter can only be used with water-based lubricants.
Compatibility
The little extra? By lubricating, it also makes a care intimate parts all found : à you a liquid balm of first choice, come from the end of the world. (Note: If the olive oil can also être a solution, we advise you the Coco the eyes closed!)
Our coconut oil comes from the eastern coasts of Madagascar. Nourished by the humid heat of this part of the Indian Ocean, coconuts are among the richest and most nourishing on the globe. We work with producers who do not have their own plantations, let alone forest for their plantations, but rather work in harmony with nature. Coconut Rhapsody" coconut oil comes from this know-how: wild coconut trees produce rich and intense coconuts, and a slow pressing (mechanical pressure), soft, to keep and capture the essence of the coconut oil. From Toamasina to Farafangana, our coconut trees produce this sweet cream that will take you far away, to the edge of the Indian Ocean. Of irrational quality, and thanks to its antibacterial properties, this vegetable oil is a real Swiss army knife of natural cosmetics: an essential.
.It is a very versatile oil, which has a place of choice in your bathroom, whether in front of the mirror, in your closet or in the shower: there is always work for Coconut oil! In our skin, it's 100% Cocos nucifera (its botanical name), the pure virgin Coconut oil.
The texture of Coconut oil
Coconut oil has a special place in the world of vegetable oils, because its rich composition in saturated fatty acids makes it solid at room temperature (below 23/24°C). Beyond that, it is liquid (light yellow appearance). That's why we chose to have it in a glass jar for an easier use. This is actually a running joke in the Mira team: every summer, customers call to advise us to put the Coconut oil in a bottle because "it's always liquid", and all these calls ... come from the South of the country or almost :)
The texture of the Coconut is very pleasant because the oil melts on the skin à application. This makes it a very easy oil to dose and apply to the area to be nourished, and it also makes it a very good carrier oil for massages in particular, as its rather greasy feel makes the massage last longer.
The smell of Coconut oil
The smell of Coconut oil would merit an article on its own as the possible cases are very varied!
The smell that everyone thinks of, that of "Coconut fresh" and very sweet is actually difficult to obtain naturally. It often exists by adding perfumes. The more normal smell is the "bounty" smell, quite fresh and not very sweet, which concerns the majority of Coconut oils. This is the case for several of our batches, while others are sweeter and others more acidic.
Then, it can happen that a production of Coconut oil gives an oil à odor rather acrid and strong. This is not a sign of a lack of quality, far from it, but it is a sign of very sour fruits, which grow in some regions of Madagascar. The fruits that are used to make our Coconut oil come from cultivated and wild coconut trees, which explains the variation that can occur from one production to another.
Finally, it can be used to make our Coconut oil.
Finally, it can happen that the oil is completely deodorized, which is possible with a simple physical operation of heating. The smell obtained is therefore by definition very neutral, but allows to mix Coconut à other natural ingredients in the care without transmitting them its smell.
.The difference between Coconut oil and Copra oil
Coconut oil and Copra oil are often referred to indifferently, even though the two are quite different.
In the beginning, there is of course the same part of the plant: from the Coconut. For Copra oil, we will start from dried flesh that we will press and immediately refine at high temperatures to fight against any odor or risk of mold. Virgin coconut oil is obtained by pressing the fresh flesh, without refining. Refining is the action of heating and "purifying" the oil obtained in order to have a neutral odor and an aspect always the same. The où this can be important for the food industry, the cosmetic privileges the virgin version, because much more nutritious and interesting for your skin and hair.
.
The production method is therefore very important to know which oil we are talking about, depending on the manufacturing conditions.
le lieu.
The sweetness of our coconut oil comes from the tropical coasts of the Indian Ocean. Used for centuries in Madagascar, this oil is handcrafted from wild coconut trees, without the slightest pesticide, without the slightest addition; it is deodorized locally, artisanally. Let it melt on your skin, on your hair, let it transport you.

COCOS NUCIFERA OIL
the team's word
Le mot des fondateurs sur notre Coconut Rhapsody
Collected remarks from Dorian, late
For this story, I take you to the western coast of Madagascar, a little higher than Tuléar. To get there from France, we fly to the capital, cross the buzzing streets of Antananarivo in the morning, when the entire population is busy with a roar of engines, lights, footsteps and dust at dawn. It smells like gasoline burning and making men move, we rush to read the newspapers - or rather the front pages that have just been laid out, but let's move on, because we are still far from a coconut tree. Then we have to take a car and go down the main road of the country which takes us to the highlands of Antsirabe, the second city of the country, more peaceful and surrounded by rice fields. We continue towards the South, in a car which stops only when it is really necessary. The landscapes become more arid, more dry, more red, and the earth which surrounds us stretches as far as the eye can see, we really wonder if other people live there. And yet, at every stop, there is someone. A farmer, a family, a merchant, a shepherd. Many pass by and some live here. We go down again towards the South, then towards the West: it is the luxuriant vegetation of Fianarantsoa, the air is more humid, the sensation of heat more intense too. Still on the road, we cross a natural park with rocks that are proudly exposed and where some forgotten tombs are peacefully looking at the sky, buried in the rocks. The road is always rolling under our eyes on dry forests, soon sandy beaches, then at the turn of a curve, without us really expecting it: the sea. That we see dancing, that we see swaying peacefully on the day we arrive, and they are the coconut trees.
They watch the shore, the boats, the fishermen, but they stand proudly along the coast. These are all the ones up there, and much further north, whose nuts we will take. We will take their flesh and press it, fresh. Gently. Cold. The oil that comes out has a lot of benefits for your face, your body and your hair. And I wouldn't have enough time in these few minutes to tell you the versatility of Coconut oil. The wild coconut trees that contribute to its softness ? They are the ones that give it its creamy texture and its sweet smell, sometimes fuller, sometimes more voluptuous. We do not impose anything on this Coconut oil, because it comes from Coconut palms which we have not imposed anything. Here no monocultures nor intensive agriculture, just a press and time.

What are the benefits of virgin coconut oil - What are its uses?
As we said in the use part, the virgin Coconut oil is one of the multipurpose oils par excellence of the world of cosmetics and aromatherapy. Be careful to speak of virgin Coconut oil and not Copra oil, used a lot in the food industry and often obtained by solvent extraction (less respectful of the material than extraction by cold pressing).
.In cooking as in cosmetics, its benefits are numerous. To nourish skin and hair, for an effective and natural massage, as a natural lubricant: the benefits of Virgin Coconut oil are very numerous and make it a very versatile oil, ready to be used with essential oils for more specific effects. It has anti-cellulite effects in massages extremely interesting, by its smoothing action on the skin. The vitamin E it contains also allows your skin to be protected from oxidation (responsible for the premature aging of your skin). It can also be found in homemade toothpaste recipes, or in the formulation of gentle shampoo.
What is coconut oil used for, and can it be used on the skin and face?
In cosmetics, Coconut oil is an excellent mollifier: it makes the skin softer. It serves to nourish the skin in depth, including the face. The skin of the face is more fragile, because it is exposed to all kinds of aggressions and is thinner than the skin of the body. Beware also for those who are prone to oily effect or oily skins, because Coconut is a comedian, so it is more adapted to normal and very dry skins. If in doubt, try applying directly to the face on a very small area, then study its effects over a week. In massage on the body anti cellulite: it will work wonders.
How to use Coconut oil for the hair.
Coconut oil for hair is mostly used as a mask. You need to apply the oil directly to the scalp and let it sit.
The idea is to either go about your business and let the oil work along the roots or spend the night with this mask around the hair, wrapped for the occasion in a warm towel. The benefits of Coconut oil are many, but they include softening the hair fiber, making your hair more resilient and less brittle.
.Our little extra? Also enjoy the vitamins of Coconut oil on your eyelashes and eyebrows!
What does our Coconut oil smell like?
Our Coconut oil is lightly scented, and light colored, creamy. It comes directly from the West coast of Madagascar, from wild coconut trees, from producers organized in family plantations who harvest the Cocos and press the pulp. We have had it for a long time, but we would like to find the sweet notes of the Coconut in our jars! If you have an opinion on it : don't hesitate to write us :)
Doing your makeup with Coconut oil?
We recommend it! As seen in our suggestions, Coconut oil is an excellent natural makeup remover, prized for its saturated fatty acid content (the ones that make it mostly solid at room temperature). Apply to your face to remove stubborn makeup or set mascara, and let Coco work naturally! Bonus: your skin is nourished in the process!
.What is the price of coconut oil and how does it vary?
Coconut oil is a fairly affordable oil because it is produced in large quantities around the world, but the price varies greatly depending on the source. Most coconut oil comes from Indonesia and South East Asia, where it is produced by planting coconut groves as far as the eye can see. This has the advantage of producing a very standardized oil, but the huge disadvantage of mono-cultivation that replaces rich ecosystems: we lose many animal and plant species. We will advocate for a reasoned cultivation or wild harvesting for our Coconut oil from Madagascar.
.What to replace coconut oil with
.If your skin is oily type or tendency oily, Coconut oil so comédogène, you may develop small pimples following the use of Coconut. Nothing serious, don't worry: it's just a sign that your skin is too full of oil and that it can no longer manage the supply of fat. The pores become clogged, and it becomes difficult for your skin to "breathe" and cleanse itself properly.
.In this case, it is advisable to go for less comfy oils such as moringa oil, or the excellent oil véIt is ideal for balancing the production of sebum and helping your oily or oily-prone skin to regulate itself. Or go for more dry oils like kukui oil, from carthamus or from hemp.
Where to find and where to buy fair trade coconut oil with insane qualities
.Here at home of course! The nôtre comes from a family of producers in the west of Madagascar, far from the very standardized Coconut oil of South East Asia, much less expensive because much less rich!
On top of that, we present it to you in a nice reusable glass jar, with a bamboo lid, and all in an irresistible graphic, so yes, you did well to come to us to choose it!

Andy.
